Cultured butter is a European-style butter made by fermenting cream with live bacterial cultures—similar to making yogurt or sour cream—before churning. This fermentation process imparts a distinctively tangy, complex, and slightly nutty flavor, along with a higher butterfat content (typically 82–85%) compared to standard American butter. It has a deeper, more pronounced tangy flavor and is creamier and denser than sweet cream butter.
